Instagram has announced checkout for shopping, giving people the ability to purchase in the app.
Instagrammers want to explore and see new things from brands they love. Businesses want opportunities to build relationships with customers. Instagram is bringing these together with checkout on Instagram. Shopping takes everything that people love about Instagram—the discovery, the inspiration, the community —and adds a new layer to learn more before making a purchase. With checkout, people can now quickly and easily purchase products they discover on Instagram without leaving the app. See it, love it, buy it.
Shopping on Instagram can provide your brand with an immersive storefront for people to explore your products. With shopping on Instagram, you can share products through Instagram posts and Instagram Stories. Checkout is a big step forward for Instagram. Enabling purchasing removes friction, improves the customer experience and can drive more results for your business.
Here’s how it works:
- After discovering a checkout-enabled product in posts or stories, the option “Checkout on Instagram” will appear when “Tap to view more details” is clicked
- After filling out contact, shipping and payment information, an order can be placed directly in the Instagram app
- After placing an order, the customer can view order status, estimated delivery date and tracking number, as well as cancel orders, initiate a return or request additional support from within the Instagram app
Checkout on Instagram is launching in closed beta on March 19 in the US. Instagram is not accepting applications for additional checkout beta businesses at this time.
